DARPAN Registration: A Comprehensive Guide for NGOs to Access Government Funding and Support

DARPAN Registration: A Comprehensive Guide for NGOs to Access Government Funding and Support

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play a vital role in India’s socio-economic development, often bridging gaps in education, healthcare, environment, and social welfare.

What is DARPAN Registration?

DARPAN (Development Assistance and Registration Portal) is an online platform introduced by NITI Aayog to register NGOs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Voluntary Organizations that are involved in social, welfare, and development activities. The portal aims to promote transparency and accountability for government-funded programs by providing a unique DARPAN ID to registered organizations. This ID serves as a reference for the Government of India and helps in monitoring and tracking the impact of the funds allocated to NGOs.

Key Features of DARPAN Registration:

  • Unique DARPAN ID: A unique identification number is issued to each registered NGO.
  • Government Funding Access: It helps NGOs apply for government grants and funding for social development programs.
  • Transparency: The portal ensures that funds allocated to NGOs are properly tracked and monitored.
  • Eligibility for Government Schemes: NGOs registered under DARPAN can apply for various government schemes and projects aimed at societal betterment.

Why is DARPAN Registration Important?

  1. Access to Government Funds and Grants: DARPAN registration is a mandatory requirement for NGOs to receive financial assistance from the Government of India. Many government schemes and programs designed to support NGOs in their social initiatives are only available to those that are registered on the DARPAN portal.
  2. Legitimacy and Recognition: Being registered on DARPAN adds credibility to the NGO’s operations. The DARPAN ID acts as proof of authenticity, ensuring that the NGO is officially recognized by the government, which increases trust among donors, beneficiaries, and partners.
  3. Monitoring and Transparency: DARPAN is also a tool for ensuring that government funds are used appropriately. With this system, both the NGO and government authorities can track the progress and usage of funds for various projects, ensuring transparency and accountability in development activities.
  4. Compliance with Legal Requirements: NGOs that wish to participate in government schemes must meet specific criteria set by NITI Aayog. DARPAN registration ensures compliance with these requirements, allowing NGOs to legally engage with the government for developmental support.
